Thanks to the leadership of many  generous individuals, Gehlen Catholic is pleased to offer more than $66,000 in NEW tuition assistance to eligible students in grades Transitional Kindergarten through 12 during the 2008-2009 school year, thanks again in part to the Msgr. Lafferty Tuition Foundation.

For example, a family of six whose annual income was at or below $80,400 can receive a maximum of 25% off of each child's tuition. Families whose annual income is at or below 200% of the poverty level can receive a maximum of 50% off of each child's tuition. Finally, families whose annual income is at or below the poverty level can receive a maximum of 75% off of each child's tuition.  (Annual income is determined by looking at annual income and assets less debt and expenses.  Special circumstances are also considered by attaching a letter outlining your situation to FAIR.)

The Msgr. Lafferty Tuition Foundation’s grant decreases tuition paid by parents.  In addition, Msgr. Lafferty Tuition Foundation assists Gehlen Catholic in serves families at or below 300% of the poverty level who may have not been eligible for other tuition assistance programs.

The process is similar to FAFSA (college financial aid program). Families submit a brief application to FAIR. FAIR, a third-party vendor, will ONLY inform the school of each family’s allocation from Msgr. Lafferty Tuition Foundation.

Families need to submit to FAIR a copy of their 2007 Federal Income Tax Return with all applicable schedules, copies of your 2007 W-2s and/or 1099 forms, and a check or money order in the amount of $17.00 payable to FAIR.  Families who cannot afford the application fee can receive assistance by contacting the Development Office.

Applications may be completed on paper or online.  However, applicants applying on line must mail their Federal Income Tax Return and applicable schedules, copies of their 2007 W-2s and/or 1099 forms.

If these dollars are not utilized for tuition assistance at Gehlen Catholic, they will be allocated to another School in our Diocese.

Applications are now available in the office or you can apply online at www.fairapp.com.  Or, you can pick up a print application in either English or Espanol in the office.

The deadline is March 15, 2008!  For more information, contact the Gehlen Catholic School Office at 546-4181.
