Jays 34-7 over West Sioux. The Jays rushed for almost 300 yards and scored on 5 of 7 possessions. Averaging almost 10 yards a carry took the load off of Taylor Wurth, he was a respectable 5-8-33 and 1 TD. Next up Hinton.
A tough loss to Hinton 14-7. The kids played there hearts out. Found a lot to build on going into district play.
Started District 1 play the right way. Built an early 28-0 lead and the final was 42-12. Taylor Wurth ran for 100yds and was 10-13-120-3tds passing. 8 differents receivers caught balls with Alec Mousel recording his first career TD.
Won 35-0 at Kingsley. Shaun Ryan caught his first td pass, a 54 strike from Taylor Wurth. Gehlen racked up 270 yards rushing being led by Bouma with 120 on 17 carries. The Jays are now averaging 320 yards per game. Offense is scoring 30 pts per game while giving up 8pts/game. Tied a school record with 26 first downs at K-P. Next up is a district showdown with 3rd rated Akron-Westfield at home.
Wow! What a game the boys played against #4 A-W. Defense held them to 6 first downs and 121 total yards. Scored 20 pts on them by half. Trevor Bouma had a huge game with 201 yard on a whopping 35 carries. Taylor was very effective in 7-11-79-1TD passing. Next up a trip to Marcus.
Well, the weather was horrible at MMC, but we played pretty well with the exception of 3 first half turnovers, led 22-0 at half and rolled to 42-6 victory. Had 20 1st downs and 435 yards of offense. Defense limited MMC to one 1st down in the first half and a total offens of 121 yards. Trevor Bouma had another great night 20 carries and 196 yards. Next is homecoming and River Valley.
Homecoming was a success as the boys came out and played a great game, winning 51-8. Highlights included a 54 yd run by Jordan Sitzmann, a total of 4 touchdowns by Trevor Bouma and a perfect 10-10 night passing by Taylor Wurth. Gehlen can win the district championship outright with a win at Woodbury Central.
District Champions!!! A hard fought 34-26 win in miserable conditions. We gained 350 total yards and held WC to -3 yards rushing. Jordan Sitzmann rushed for a season high 161 yards and two tds while we dealt with the loss of Trevor Bouma early in the 1st quarter. On to Newell for a non-district matchup with Newell-Fonda. Then hosting a sub-state game at Morningside on Oct. 28.
Played well at Newell Fonda. Gehlen 41-12. Defense came up with several picks with T. Wurth returning one for a td. Next up RCL in sub-state.
Dominating defense was the key at Olsen Stadium. Mousel set the tone with a 90 yd return of the opening kickoff. Wurth rushed for 213 yards while running the option with Sitzmann most of the night. The 24-0 shutout puts us in the 1st round against CCE at Lorenzen field.
Pulled out a heartstopping 21-18 win over CCE. CCE scored 18 unanswered points after Gehlen led 14-0 at halftime. Wurth hit Shaun Ryan with a 62 yard scoring strike with 3 minutes left and the defense rose to the challenge and sealed the victory when T. Wurth intercepted a pass with 30 seconds remaining.
Lost 9-14 to Southern Cal. Defense played well and held S Cal to just over 200 yards of offense. Gehlen led early on a 26 yd fg by Sitzmann but trailed at half 6-3. After falling behind 14-3 Gehlen scored with 6 min remaining to cut the lead to 14-9. After forcing a turnover on downs, Gehlen moved 70 yards to the Cal 9 before a 4th down pass was incomplete to end the game.
