Faith and Values
Gehlen Catholic School is a community of faith where learning, leadership, service, and sportsmanship are Christ-centered. Upon graduation, Gehlen Catholic students will be:
- Christian models,
- Effective communicators,
- Responsible citizens,
- Life long learners, and
- Productive contributors to their world.
As an extension of the Catholic Church, Gehlen Catholic welcomes students of all faiths, races, cultures, and social classes. (5% of Gehlen Catholic's current students and staff are comprised of individuals from other Christian, Buddhist, & Muslim denominations).
- Daily school-wide prayer and religion classes;
- Year-round program including weekly student-led liturgies, seasonal penance services, and days of recollection;
- Celebrate First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation;
- Recruitment and preparation of lectors and servers;
- Ongoing faith-formation for faculty;
- Participation in Diocesan events with Bishop Nickless including a prayer protest on the 35th Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade at Planned Parenthood;
- Effective decision making based on moral and ethical standards;
- Sportsmanship Rating by Iowa High School Athletic Association: 1.0 coaches & students, spectators 1.11 (perfect score 1.0); and
- Students better understand and exemplify faith and values of the Catholic Church as assessed by their performance on the National Catholic Education Assn.’s Assessment of Catechesis Religious Education (ACRE) testing.
