Anointing Mass Calls Upon Healing Spirit

The rain did not dampen the spirits of more than 120 individuals who attended Gehlen Catholic’s annual Anointing Mass on Wednesday, October 21st, in the gym.

Rev. Dan Greving of Our Lady of Assumption – Merrill and St. Joseph – Ellendale, Neptune & Struble presided.  During the homily, Rev. Greving shared a story from a previous anointing.  He stated that priests are God’s helpers and bring the sacraments of healing to those in need.

Afterwards, Rev. Greving, Rev. Matt Hewitt of St. James – LeMars and Rev. Kevin Richter of St. Joseph – LeMars, concelebrants of the mass, assisted with the anointing.

Director of Campus Ministries, Lisa (Langel, '80) Sitzmann, remarked, "This is one of the most moving liturgies for me all year.  This sacrament grants the hope our Faith offers.  From the number of guest in attendance which shows the desire for God's healing graces to the compassion displayed by our students laying hands on their shoulders during the anointing....it is just amazing to witness."

The mass is one of the many activities sponsored by the Christian Leadership Team (CLT) under the leadership of Sarah Mayer & Leah Ruhland.  Afterwards, CLT treated the school’s guests to rolls & coffee in the Kolker Library & Media Center.
