Veteran's Day

On Wednesday, November 11th, Gehlen Catholic School invites the community, past and present service men and women, and their families to a Veteran’s Day Prayer Service.

This year’s guest speaker is Mr. Gary Tillman, Nurse Anesthetist at Floyd Valley Hospital.  Gary, & his wife, Elaine, are the proud parents of Michelle (’98), Jake (’01) Scott (’03), & David, a senior.

Mr. Tillman shared with the students, faculty & guests in attendance the importance of Veteran's Day to both those who have served & those who are currently serving in the military.  The Tillman's son, Scott, is a Specialist for the Army’s Striker Brigade in Afghanistan. He was deployed in July 2010.

Also this year, Commander, Larry Baer of American Legion – Wasmer Post educated those in attendance on “Taps.”  The service ended with a 21-gun salute.

Finally this year, Gehlen Catholic unveiled the “Wall of Honor.”   The Wall of Honor will be a permanent display featuring 5x7 pictures of loved ones of the Gehlen Catholic family who are currently or have served in the armed services.

Pictures can be submitted to Director of Campus Ministries, Lisa (Langel, '79) Sitzmann, who will add them to the "Wall of Honor."
