Psalm 107: 1-9 “Give thanks to the LORD who is good, whose love
endures forever! … They were hungry and thirsty; their life was
ebbing away. In their distress they cried to the LORD, who
rescued them in their peril…. Let them thank the LORD for such
kindness….For he satisfied the thirsty, filled the hungry with
good things.”

During Lent, the
Gehlen Catholic family lives our faith through prayer, fasting, and
almsgiving. Although we may diminish our portion sizes or give up
candy, pop, or our other favorite items, we cannot fathom what
hunger truly feels like. Unfortunately, there are children and
adults in our world, from as close as Honduras to as far away as
Africa, who are without food and water during Lent and throughout
the year. This
coming spring, Gehlen Catholic students will again participate in
the 2nd
Kids Against Hunger project. The program will involve students
in packaging food packets for the hungry of the world. This past
spring 181,000 meals were prepared by our students. The food has
been shipped to Tanzania and Honduras to provide nourishment for the
hungry.
This spring, the students and staff of
Gehlen Catholic School along with Kids Against Hunger,
a component of Feed the Children International, will help to feed the children of the world
who will go to bed tonight hungry once again. Through Kids Against Hunger, bags of nutritious food
are prepared and shipped to starving children. Every bag provides
food and nutrition for six children.
Individuals who are interested in donating their time or making a
financial contribution are asked to contact Lisa Niebuhr in the
Gehlen Catholic Development Office at 546.4181 ext. 237.
We have all heard the sound of a child whose stomach is grumbling
and hungry. Through our efforts, we hope to begin an exciting
endeavor so that no child in the world goes to bed starving and
malnourished tonight.
